Fisher Price Little People
I had fond memories of playing with these as a toddler. My grandparents had a huge black garbage bag full of fisher price little people. I spent hours on the floor playing with them, while my sister was usually on the NES.
When I became a mom I wanted to share something of my past and create more fond memories with the fisher price little people.
So as one does when looking for something vintage, I searched online. However any dream of playing with these was out of the question when I came upon a website.
The website was Lead Free Momma. She went into great detail how these little toys from the 1960s-80s/90s contained dangerous amounts of lead and cadmium.
I was disappointed but glad I never bought any. However I come to talk about the real point for this blog.
So with something so dangerous you would think these would have been thrown out when the recall was done years ago.
NOPE! Everywhere I look they are easily accessible. From Facebook Market Place, Ebay and Etsy. The worst part about this, is that the majority of people I have spoken to don’t know that these are dangerously unsafe.
Which leads me to believe that most people especially Millennials have no clue. They like me, having fond memories as a child and wanting to share with their children.
Unfortunately with doing so unknowingly expose their little ones to a very high chance of cancer.
Now with that said I have heard, “but we are fine!” yes that maybe so however those toxic chemicals have leached much more over the decades then when we were kids.
I believe all these little people should be banned from online sellers because some who do sell them, do know and do not even disclose this in their ads.
Before I conclude this blog. I hope to see change when it comes to these used toys. And I believe the best way would be for the company to do a world wide PSA.
I believe they should also maybe make new ones that are safer in size and the paint used as an incentive to toss the vintage ones out.
